Black History Month: Within Our Gates
This collection of the works of America's legendary first African-American filmmakers is the only one of its kind.
An African-American woman (Evelyn Preer) moves from a northern city to the deep South, where she goes to work at a school educating underprivileged black children. When the school encounters financial difficulty, she returns to the big city seeking a means of raising the funds to keep the school alive. Mastered in HD from a 35mm film element preserved by the Library of Congress.
*Selected by NY Times as one of 28 essential films that convey the larger history of black Americans in cinema.
